Reclaim Hosting

  • so long and thanks for all the figurative fish

On February 13, my journey with Reclaim Hosting will come to an end. Though, hopefully not like the fate of a sperm whale that had suddenly been called into existence several miles above the surface of an alien planet. Maybe more like all the dolphins on Earth flying out of the oceans and into another dimension, with a grateful goodbye.

  • The Dough is Rising

Page 1: Feel free to try this recipe, but all credit to my Mimi — Page Bishop! My grandmother recently mailed me a ziplock of yeast and a French bread recipe (along with a candy thermometer, xanthum gum in another ziplock, and a few other small goodies).  The only thing is, I’m not the best baker. I like to think I can follow directions well, but even that takes practice when it comes to doing things at the right time in the right order. And just as baking changes at high altitudes, so does becoming acquainted with the Cloud when you’re used to shared hosting.  …So the point is I…

  • Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes (turn and face the domain)

So very much has happened in the last few weeks. I graduated, I got a full-time job at an amazing company, I finally changed my domain name! That might not have been in order of importance but they are all big things and order seems arbitrary right now. As a freshman I didn’t like my last name since people always seem to get it wrong, so I chose a pseudonym. Over the years, I grew to appreciate my unique last name (there are many layers to it: it’s not a real last name, there was a spelling mistake on my grandpa’s certificate and I’m not even blood related to him).…

  • Using JetBackup to Fix a WordPress Error

March 2020 at Reclaim had the sidequest of learning and expanding knowledge of WordPress. At UMW, I’ve grown to become familiar with WordPress for classes at UMW, but less so outside the application in my cPanel. Throughout the month, I did more minor things like tidying up my blog, reading through documentation on general WP fixes on Reclaim’s community site, even commissioned an art friend from UMW to make the logo and favicon for my site (yes I paid for the commission because artists deserve to be paid for their work). But the real test in my understanding of how WP operates within cPanel came in the beginning of April.…

  • How to (use) Zoom!

With the major conversion to online classes this semester, many students and faculty are turning to the application Zoom to pursue digital interaction. Even my mom, a 2nd grade teacher, has to use Zoom to wrangle her students and meet with other faculty. As a DKC tutor, I picked up the task of creating a tutorial on how to use Zoom to help teachers and students alike figure out the application. I figured with everything happening right now it could be helpful, and also I might explain things in a way other/longer tutorial videos don’t. That, or I sound like a calming YouTuber telling a peaceful bedtime story. Choose whichever…

  • I’m Trying.

On January 6, 2020, I said goodnight to my mom and got into bed. Just before opening Spotify to listen to my ritual podcast before bed (podcast of choice at the time was The Adventure Zone), I had a random urge to check my email.
